The American Dream has existed since its discovery, as sailors and explorers looked towards the green shores and dreamed of opportunity. It’s first settlers were seeking religious freedom and to get away from the reach of somewhat oppressive governments or societies. As more and more came to the ‘land of opportunity’ and years passed, other ideas of what could be and would be achieved changed. The American Dream changed with it as the people, land, opportunities, society, and wealth changed. With the Declaration of Independence, citizens of the US were promised freedom of speech, freedom from want, freedom from fear, and freedom of worship.
